MICHAEL LINCOLN24 years & Male New Massachusetts citizen. Nurse.
LOOKS LIKE
Less-than-average build: short, skinny. Michael is your all around non-fighter. He couldn't look less like a war survivor - though technically, he never was a part of the war. He was hardly in his teens when it all began. Specifically, Michael is approximately 5'8" tall and 140 pounds even, near the underweight side of his height. Unfortunately, the dystopian lifestyle of the average over-stressed and overworked citizen reflects this. Regardless, he doesn't look too bad - he isn't yet a walking skeleton. A few of his bones are pronounced and as sleeplessness becomes a number 1 past-time, it starts to show especially on the face: bags under eyes, more pale (beneath the grime!), sallow. And on the body, it leaves the person with a slouchy, rather frail posture. Simply put, small body frame, light weight, and stressful life style are all contributing to his main features.
Blonde hair, blue eyes: more accurately, his hair would be classified as dirty blonde. Literally and not. The strands are long and go down past his ears in some areas, and he even has bangs, a bit parted in the centre, that go down to about his nose. He has a bit of facial hair, but tends to keep it trimmed to just below a stubbly line. His eyes are a dark, deep blue. Not like the ocean. The ocean is, in fact, rather green-ish if one was to look at it properly. And it is not very "deep" in colour. Choppy, mostly. His hair and eyes, probably once lovely at some point, are now respectively filthy and tired. If the lines on his face don't spell it out, the faraway look in his eyes will. Life is hard.
Casual, borderline scruffy clothing: jackets, long sleeve shirts, overcoats, jeans or pants of some kind. These days, not many people are overly concerned about what one wears, as long as they are wearing something. That is always a plus! Michael tends to stick with jackets. Any kind. Leather, non leather (I don't really know what to call jacket material). As long as it is baggy and comfortable, he will wear it. Underneath, he more than likely has a regular shirt on. Probably a tee-shirt unless it's cold, in which he'll wear a long sleeve shirt or another jacket, with probably a third inner layer if the latter is the case. His pants are usually just regular jeans, or maybe a khaki material if he can find one. People don't sell jeans with holes in them anymore. They are worn in.
ACTS LIKE
The softy: sensitive, caring and compassionate. He became a nurse for a reason, and not just because he was exceptionally good at one of the few requirements now set for the dwindling, exhausted field. He is kind, caring, and is truly interested in making his patients feel better. He is a people person. He knows, in the average case, how to make someone open up and talk and feel better. He spends a lot of time just trying to get to know people so he can later on help them out when they need it. He knows, no matter how hard someone pretends they don't need help... they eventually will. Unfortunately, that makes him a bit nosy and persistent. He doesn't try to get in people's way, but sometimes he just ends up tripping into their paths.
The dreamer: he is thoughtful and pensive. He spends a lot of time just looking off into space, imagining things. Sometimes it may be he is thinking of a past event; sometimes he may be considering the future. Maybe, he is imagining a different time and different place. No matter what he is imagining, it is clearly deep and thoughtful, because he spends a great deal amount of time at it. He is a multitasker, a rare thing in the male species which seems to get its strength only from not being able to talk to another person while working on the computer. It is also a necessary thing for him, in the profession he was willing to go into. Can you imagine a nurse incapable of mutlitasking? Surely, it would result in quite a few problems. Especially if the nurse was preoccupied with breathing.
The peacemaker: pacifist, quiet one. It is, generally, hard to get him angry. Of course, if you try hard enough, you might get a little spark of fight out of him. That's not to say he's going to go complete war zone modem, but be prepared for some swift back-talking. In most situations, however, he is trying to calm down the problems to prevent fights. He doesn't like seeing people angry at one another or being thrown around in a fist fight. Because he is usually so quiet, he tends to be the person sitting in the back of the room, unnoticed. Sometimes people forget he is even there, which suits him just fine because he is probably daydreaming or something similar. In fact, the less people talking to him, the better, because he is then able to mentally check out and relax.
LIVED THROUGH
Lincoln was born in year 2022. In that year, there were still wars and riots being fought. His parents were former citizens of Massachusetts when the United States was still a country. They joined the rebellion uprising and helped form the New Massachusetts. Lincoln was born years later. He grew up in the warfare that rang between the RA and the NM. Despite the dreams of many of his friends and classmates through their schooling to go to war, he never wanted to fight. In fact, he wanted to help save lives. In this world, there are two professions in warfare. Soldier or nurse (also known as a medic or doctor in these times). Nurses were dwindling because the majority of the youth wanted to be soldiers to fight - and die - in the war. When Lincoln told his teachers he wanted to be a nurse, he was sent immediately, at age eight, to a special school.
Nursing isn't like what it used to be. Students learned the basics of first aid and emergency procedures, but knew very little about pharmaceutical needs. Their training was all about on the spot medical care. Because many nurses are sent out on the front line to help injured soldiers, they were given basic weapon training. From the beginning he had a good knack for the medical training. Thoughtful and studious, he made quick work and learned quite a bit. Back at home, he had the support of his mother, but not his veteran father, who believed everyone should go fight in the war to liberate the country. Regardless, he continued his studies, partly because he liked them, and partly because he was afraid of being a soldier. He was afraid of dying like all of his friends and former classmates were. The leaders tried hard to keep morale up and hide the names of the dead, but it is clear when they never come home...
Once he graduated from school, he immediately was sent to a hospital area in the back lines. Wounded soldiers returning from the front lines would go to the hospital to get treatment. This war was with the RA, until in 1940 they finally settled with peace negotiations. After that, he returned home to continue healing sick and ill people. In 1944 another way sprang out, though he remained in that hospital, away from the front lines.
